Satellite Beach is a unique community. Even its name is unique, there is no other place listed by the United States Census Bureau that contains the word "satellite".
It is on a barrier island between the natural richness of the Indian River lagoon and the warm Atlantic Ocean. The city was named for its proximity to Cape Canaveral and is just two miles south of Patrick Air Force Base. |

|
Satellite Beach was incorporated in 1957 and has striven to keep the community a family oriented place to live and to protect the natural environment by purchasing land along the ocean which will remain undeveloped.
Although there are several access ramps to the beach, crowds are never a problem. When the waves are good, you will see surfers of all ages out trying to catch the perfect wave.

The launches from Cape Canaveral can be viewed from the beach.
During the summer, take a walk along the beach and you may find tracks left behind by sea turtles coming in from the ocean to lay their eggs. The season starts in May and continues through October as the eggs hatch and the babies find their way to their ocean home. |

When hunger strikes, Satellite Beach has you covered. One of the area's favorites is Long Dogger's for foot long hot dogs in a casual beach atmosphere. If you are looking for a good steak simmered over an open fire, then Foreman's Steak House may fit your needs. If it's seafood you're craving then Bunky's is the place to go. Or if you want Karaoke, live music or dancing, then you should stop by The Cove. |
